Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial
Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial
Located to the south of the National Mall, the national memorial is set in a park-like plaza, with large columns framing a mesh tapestry depicting the site of the Normandy landings, and sculptures and bas-reliefs arrayed in the park. Architect Frank Gehry designed the memorial and Sergey Eylanbekov sculpted the bronze statues of Eisenhower in various settings. The memorial's tapestry artist was Tomas Osinski, and the inscription artist, Nicholas Waite Benson.
On October 25, 1999, the United States Congress created the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Commission, and charged it with creating "...an appropriate permanent memorial to Dwight D. Eisenhower...to perpetuate his memory and his contributions to the United States." The preliminary design proved controversial. After several years of hearings and several design changes by Gehry, final design approvals were given in 2017, when dignitaries held a groundbreaking ceremony at the four-acre site.

Paul the Tour Lord

Interaction with the tour guide Paul was our favorite thing. He was fantastic and we loved his dad jokes. He was from the area and had a great knowledge of the history of DC.

All of the tour was great. The driver was extremely informative and narrate well. He took us to the different site and eloquently explained them to us. It was very intriguing to learn about the history of this, our great nation.
truth about this tour
Nikita_G, 31-12-2022
This tour was good. Let me start by saying our tour guide was amazing! Very kind! Soft spoken and knowledgeable. You can tell he knows history & he shared it well. The only downside to this tour expect night time to be dark. We couldn’t really see the things he told us to look at while driving unless it was up close so i recommend going during the day because there aren’t much “lighted areas” i thought there would be. But if you want history, and great photos during the stops i recommend. Defines an experience to remember.
