Overview

Washington National Cathedral stands on a hilltop overlooking the National Capitol, like a chunk of medieval European and Gothic architectural history an American capital couldn't possibly own, and is one of the great architectural marvels of the city.

A 90-minute tour of the cathedral's interior with author and guide, Andy Bittner, is to be immersed in what just might be the most intense concentration of 20th-century handcraft on the planet.

- Experience the most amazing collections of 20th-century stained glass, carved stone, and needlepoint anywhere on earth
- See the famous Darth Vader grotesque... See it for yourself
- Enjoy amazing views of the city and surrounding region from the cathedral's Pilgrim Observation Gallery

Guests may stay in the Cathedral after the tour for as long as they like.

Well worth it!

We (two adults, two teens) thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the National Cathedral with Andy Bittner. His detailed knowledge of the cathedral’s history, accumulated over decades, is skillfully presented as an intricate narrative of the many personalities that came together during the 20th century to complete this project. From the carvings and wrought iron at the entrance, to the mosaics in the crypt, there is a story behind each and Andy is the guy to tell it.

Our tour guide Andy was absolutely amazing. He had great knowledge of the cathedral and was very passionate in his telling about the cathedral. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who is visiting the area. The only thing I regret is that I did not set enough time aside for this site. We had researched and it said about 30 min. We were in about an hour and a half and could have easily spent another hour and a half.

This is an absolute must see in Washington DC! A Cathedral is not like any other I have ever seen. So many interesting details shared by Andy during the private tour. I would highly recommend it, even if you are visiting for a day!
