Ford's Theatre
This is the historic theater where John Wilkes Booth snuck up behind the President like a coward and fired that fateful shot. Today it is a working theater and it has been restored to his Civil War era grandeur. Millions of Americans visit this location every year to remember Lincoln and his legacy.

Petersen Boarding House
This small and simple historic row house was a boarding house at the time of the Civil War. After Lincoln was shot, he was taken to a room on the first floor of this house while the doctors attended to his health. Secretary of War Edwin Stanton interviewed witnesses here that night. Robert Todd Lincoln arrived from the White House and stayed by his father's side all night. It was a sad procession early the next morning when they finally brought the President's lifeless body down the steps for his carriage journey back to the White House.

This was a lot of fun! We learned a lot and enjoyed walking about town with the tour. Our group of teens and 40-somethings were all very glad we decided on this tour from so many options around DC.

BEST part of our DC trip

Let me tell you about the best thing we did in DC.

When I was in high school, I went with my parents to DC and visited Ford's theater. We had the BEST tour guide, who walked us through, moment by moment, the night Lincoln was assassinated. It was like we were there.

When I took my teenahe daughter to DC alone a number of years ago, I was excited for that same experience. So I was extremely disappointed to realize they'd built a museum in the basement of the theater and now handed you a headset with a pre-recorded story that walked you along walls of photos and objects.

She was bored out of her skull.

So I was determined to find something better for my trip with my two teensge boys...and did I ever.

This tour was HANDS DOWN the best part of DC.

Rebecca was our tour guide. We met her at a church a block from the White House and ended our walking tour at Ford's Theater. Along the two hour stroll, she pointed out homes and buildings and brought to life the night of April 14, 1965.

The boys were ENTRALLED...by her knowledge...her storytelling...one boy might have even mentioned he wants to end up with a girl that smart. (Music to my ears)

If you're coming to DC, you NEED to do this tour. See if you can get Rebecca.

Fyi... you don't actually go in the theater, but truly, it didn't even matter. She had a tablet where she showed photos and explained it all, and we were able to visualize it perfectly!

It was all I was hoping for and more.

Great tour
